Generally you don't wait long, it's possible to bring in guthans and heal up in the extra time as well. Fang makes this very consistent because you'll have a very high accuracy, and will roll damage between 10 and 40 ish.

At steel dragons, fang wins out by about 3-4%, and at KBD fang is comfortably ahead by ~7% dps. Regardless of how much time the point still stands. "If you kill Vorkath enough then you will be able to afford the other in due time". DHL will always be a bit better when killing dragons. The difference isn't huge though. Fang is pretty great for literally anything else in the game that is weak to stab.
